(Thursday, May 1, 1941) — Masses of truck-borne infantry and new motorized artillery were star attractions today at Soviet Russia’s traditional May Day parade in Red Square today; and Defence Commissar S. K. Timoshenko told spectators that the Red Army was mobilized against “accidents” and “the tricks of our foreign enemies.”

‘Citizen Kane’ opens in New York


(Friday, May 1, 1941)Citizen Kane, an American drama film about a group of reporters who are trying to decipher the last word ever spoke by Charles Foster Kane, the millionaire newspaper tycoon, directed by and starring Orson Welles and widely considered the greatest film of all time, opened today at the RKO Palace on Broadway in New York.
