(Thursday, October 8, 1981, 6:52 p.m. EDT) — The assassination of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat brought together the four living United States presidents — Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford and Richard Nixon — for a historic meeting today at the White House. Reagan expressed “heartfelt thanks” to his three living predecessors “for undertaking this sad mission” to attend Sadat’s funeral in Cairo.
