Clint Eastwood’s ‘Dirty Harry’ opens in New York 40 years ago today (1971) – Do you feel lucky?

(Wednesday, December 22, 1971)Dirty Harry, a film about a San Francisco cop (Clint Eastwood) with little regard for rules (but who always gets results) while tracking down a serial killer who snipes at random victims, opened today at the Loew’s State 2 and Loew’s Orpheum theaters in New York City.

Produced and directed by Don Siegel, the crime thriller launched the Dirty Harry film series about fictional San Francisco Police Department Homicide Division Inspector “Dirty” Harry Callahan.
