‘The Concert for Bangla Desh’ film opens in New York 40 years ago today (1972)

(Thursday, March 23, 1972)The Concert For Bangla Desh, a film about two benefit concerts organized for refugees from East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) following the 1970 Bhola cyclone and atrocities during Bangladesh Liberation War, opened today at the DeMille in New York.

Directed by Saul Swimmer, the film features performances by Ravi Shankar, ex-Beatles George Harrison and Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Leon Russell and the band Badfinger.
