North Vietnamese launch Easter Offensive 40 years ago this hour (1972)

(Thursday, March 30, 1972, noon Indochina Time, during the Vietnam War) — The Easter Offensive, the largest offensive operation since 300,000 Chinese volunteers had crossed the Yalu River into North Korea during the Korean War, began today with an intense North Vietnamese artillery barrage on the northernmost South Vietnamese outposts in Quang Tri Province.
