(Sunday, August 20, 1972) — The Wattstax music festival (which would become known as the “black Woodstock”, organized by Memphis’s Stax Records to commemorate the seventh anniversary of the Watts riots, was held tonight at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for some 112,000 people.
