(Saturday, August 18, 1962, 10 p.m. local time) — The Beatles as the world would know them are born tonight as Richard Starkey, better known by his stage name Ringo Starr, debuted as a permanent member of the group, the closing attraction in the local Horticultural Society’s 17th annual dance at Hulme Hall in Birkenhead.
