(Friday, December 18, 1992) — Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney today completed shooting a promotional film video for C’Mon People at Bray Film Studios, Water Oakley, England. The video will be mastered Feb. 16, 1993, and the track released as a single (Feb. 22, 1993 in the UK, July 27, 1993 in the U.S.) from McCartney’s album Off The Ground.

Piltdown Man, later discovered to be a hoax, announced by Charles Dawson 100 years ago today (1912)

(Wednesday, December 18, 1912) — The Piltdown Man made its public debut today as fossil collector Charles Dawson reported to the Geological Society of London his discovery of supposedly fragmented early human remains at a gravel pit in Piltdown, East Sussex, England.

More than four decades later, the Piltdown Man was exposed as a hoax.

(Monday, December 18, 1972, 7:40 p.m. Hanoi time, during Operation Linebacker II, part of the Vietnam War) — Operation Linebacker II, also known as The Christmas Bombings, began this evening as 129 U.S. B-52 bombers from Guam and Thailand dropped their payloads on targets in North Vietnam from an altitude of 35,000 feet.
