Hanoi agrees to negotiate, ‘Christmas Bombings’ end 40 years ago today (1972)

(Friday, December 29, 1972; during Operation Linebacker II, part of the Vietnam War) — The final raids of “Christmas Bombings” of North Vietnam were made today by 60 U.S. aircraft. Hanoi agreed to resume negotiations in Paris within five days, so U.S. President Richard Nixon suspended aerial operations north of the 20th parallel.
