(Thursday, October 6, 1983) — A SPECTRE agent has stolen two American nuclear warheads, and James Bond must find their targets before they are detonated in Never Say Never Again, which premiered today in Los Angeles.

Produced by an independent company (not by Eon Productions, which has produced nearly all of the Bond films since 1962), the film marked Sean Connery’s return to the role 12 years after his final official Bond film Diamonds Are Forever.

Directed by Irvin Kershner, the film also starred Kim Basinger, Klaus Maria Brandauer, Barbara Carrera, Max von Sydow, Bernie Casey and Rowan Atkinson.
