(Saturday, November 5, 1983, 11:30 p.m. EST) — Cast member Eddie Murphy impersonated James Brown tonight during a musical comedy sketch titled “James Brown’s Celebrity Hot Tub Party” on NBC’s Saturday Night Live.

TV Guide and TV Land ranked this sketch #30 out the “100 Most Memorable TV Moments of All Time” in 2004.

Parsons’ manager fined for stealing singer’s body 40 years ago today (1973)

(Monday, November 5, 1973) — Singer Gram Parsons’ manager, Phil Kaufman, was fined $300 today for stealing Parsons’ body from the Los Angeles International Airport. The body was cremated instead of taken to Parsons’ funeral. Kaufman claimed that it was Parsons’ wish to be cremated.
