(Monday, November 25, 1963, 3:02 p.m. EST) — Jacqueline Kennedy, President Kennedy’s widow today lit the eternal flame, a presidential memorial at the gravesite of U.S. President John F. Kennedy, in Arlington National Cemetery. The president’s brothers, Robert F. Kennedy and Edward M. Kennedy, symbolically lit the flame after her.

After the funeral services concluded, a reception for world leaders was held at the White House.
