Mancini, Streisand win Grammys 50 years ago today (May 12 1964)

(Tuesday, May 12, 1964) — Henry Mancini won Record of the Year for “Days of Wine and Roses” at the 6th Annual Grammy Awards tonight, held in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York.

Song of the Year went to Henry Mancini & Johnny Mercer (songwriters) for “Days of Wine and Roses” as performed by Mancini.

Album of the Year (other than classical) went to Barbra Streisand for The Barbra Streisand Album. And Best New Artist was awarded to Ward Swingle (The Swingle Singers).
