‘Rock Around the Clock’ by Bill Haley & His Comets peaks at #39 in USA 40 years ago today (May 25 1974)

(Saturday, May 25, 1974)“Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Haley & His Comets peaked at #39 on today’s Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for one week, 19 years after hitting #1 on the chart for eight weeks.

The song’s reappearance on the chart followed its use as the theme for the 1973 movie American Graffiti and a re-recorded version by Haley used as the opening theme for the TV series Happy Days during its first two seasons (1974-1975).
