‘Hill Street Blues,’ ‘Cheers’ big winners at Emmy Awards 30 years ago this hour (Sep 23 1984)

(Sunday, September 23, 1984, 8:30 p.m. EDT) — NBC’s police drama Hill Street Blues picked up four awards tonight at the 36th Primetime Emmy Awards tonight at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California.

For the fourth straight year, the program was chosen as Outstanding Drama Series by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences

Cheers, the NBC series in its third season, won the award as Outstanding Comedy Series, as it did last year.

Ceremonies were hosted by Tom Selleck.
