(Saturday, December 14, 1974) — For the first time since The Beatles broke up in 1970, each member had a record on today’s Billboard ‘s top 40 pop chart: “Junior’s Farm” by Paul McCartney and Wings at #10, “Only You” by Ringo Starr at #18, “Dark Horse” by George Harrison at #32 and “Whatever Gets You Thru The Night” by John Lennon at #40. They would repeat this feat on Jan. 11 and 18, 1975 (same four songs except with Lennon’s “No. 9 Dream” replacing his “Whatever Gets You Thru The Night”). ‘Zorba the Greek’ released in Greece 50 years ago today (Dec 14 1964)

(Monday, December 14, 1964)Zorba the Greek, a drama film about an amoral Greek peasant who teaches a British student the meaning of life, was released today in Greece (it opened in New York and Los Angeles on Dec. 17, 1964).

Directed by Michael Cacoyannis, the film starred Anthony Quinn, Alan Bates, Irene Papas, Lila Kedrova, Sotiris Moustakas and Anna Kyriakou.
