Bob Dylan’s ‘Highway 61 Revisited’ album released 50 years ago today (Aug 30 1965)

(Monday, August 30, 1965)Highway 61 Revisited, the sixth studio album by the American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan (using rock musicians as his backing band on all but one track, having until then recorded mostly acoustic music), was released today.

The album was ranked number four on Rolling Stone‘s “500 Greatest Albums of All Time.”

(Friday, August 30, 1935, 10:45 a.m. EDT)Anna Karenina, a film adaptation of Tolstoy’s classic tale of a woman who deserts her family for an illicit love, premiered this morning at the Capitol theater in New York.

Directed by Clarence Brown, the film starred Greta Garbo, Fredric March, Maureen O’Sullivan, Freddie Bartholomew, Basil Rathbone and Reginald Owen.
