(Thursday, July 15, 1976) — Senator Walter Mondale of Minnesota was nominated vice president today on the first ballot at the 1976 Democratic National Convention meeting at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Mondale was nominated over House Speaker of the House Carl Albert of Oklahoma 2837 to 30 votes to join the ticket headed by former Governor Jimmy Carter of Georgia (who was nominated the previous night).

The Carter-Mondale ticket would oppose the Republican ticket of President Gerald Ford and Senator Bob Dole (nominated in Aug. 1976) in the United States presidential election, 1976.
