(Saturday, August 11, 1956, 10:15 p.m. EDT)Jackson Pollock, an influential American painter and a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement, died tonight in a single-car crash in his Oldsmobile convertible on Long Island, New York, while driving under the influence of alcohol. He was 44 years old.

I didn’t mean it as a lousy, anti-religious thing. I was sort of deploring the attitude toward Christianity.
