(Thursday, August 29, 1996, 9:00 p.m. CDT) — President Bill Clinton of Arkansas accepted the Democratic nomination for a second term tonight at the 1996 Democratic National Convention meeting at the United Center in Chicago.

Clinton unanimously won the nomination Aug. 28, 1996, at 10:59 CDT on the first ballot (with 12 abstentions).

Vice President Al Gore was also nominated for a second term today by voice vote (click here to watch his acceptance speech on Aug. 28 1996).

Clinton and Gore would oppose the Republican ticket of Bob Dole and Jack Kemp in the United States presidential election, 1996.
