(Friday, May 8, 1987, scheduled for 10:00 a.m. MDT) — Senator Gary Hart of Colorado, the front-runner for the 1988 Democratic presidential nomination, dropped out of the race today over allegations of an extramarital affair with Miami model Donna Rice and after the Washington Post threatened to run a story about a woman Hart had dated while separated from his wife.
