(Thursday, June 26, 1997) — The first Harry Potter novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling, was published today by Bloomsbury in the United Kingdom (it was later released in the United States under the title Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone).

The plot follows Harry Potter, a young wizard who discovers his magical heritage as he makes close friends and a few enemies in his first year at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
