(Monday, November 6, 1967, 10:30 a.m. EST) — The Phil Donahue Show, an American television talk show hosted by 31-year-old Phil Donahue that ran for 29 years, debuted today on WLWD (now WDTN) in Dayton, Ohio, creating a new television genre: the daytime talk show.

Donahue’s very first guest was atheist activist Madalyn Murray O’Hair.

In 2002, Donahue was ranked twenty-ninth on TV Guide magazine’s list of the fifty greatest television shows of all-time.
