(Sunday, December 10, 1967, 8:00-9:00 p.m. EST) — CBS Studio 50, a theater located at 1697–1699 Broadway, between West 53rd and West 54th, in the Theater District in Manhattan, was officially renamed the Ed Sullivan Theater in honor of variety TV host Ed Sullivan at the end of his “20th Anniversary Celebration” telecast tonight on CBS.

New York City Mayor John Lindsay presided over the rechristening ceremony and Sullivan was escorted to the sound of Irish pipes outside the building where he had hosted his variety show since 1953.

Earlier in the hour, Pearl Bailey performed “Before The Parade Passes By” with the cast of Hello, Dolly!.
