(Sunday, December 24, 1967) — Production officially wrapped on season two of The Monkees television series today at Screen Gems’ Studio 7 in Hollywood as the show’s crew completed post-production on what will become episode 54 of the series The Monkees in Paris.

The series would be officially cancelled on Feb. 20, 1968, one day after the group began filming its first feature film, Head.

The band had become tired of scripts which they deemed monotonous and stale and proposed switching the format of the series to become more like a variety show, with musical guests and live performances.

NBC, however, was not interested in eliminating the existing format, and the group (except for Peter Tork) had little desire to continue for a third season.
