‘Peggy Sue’ by Buddy Holly peaks at #3 in USA 60 years ago #OnThisDay #OTD (Dec 30 1957)

(Monday, December 30, 1957)“Peggy Sue” by Buddy Holly peaked at #3 on today’s Billboard Top 100 Sides chart for three weeks.

It is ranked number 194 on Rolling Stone magazine’s 2004 list of the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”

The Crickets were not mentioned on label of the single (Coral 9-61885), but band members Joe B. Mauldin (string bass) and Jerry Allison (drums) played on the recording.
