(Saturday, February 3, 1968, 2:30-6:00 p.m./7:00 p.m.-1:30 a.m. GMT) — The Beatles, keen to prepare music to be issued during their imminent two-month stay in India, where they were to study Transcendental Meditation with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, began recording their first single of 1968 today at EMI Studio Three in London.

After working on Paul McCartney’s “Lady Madonna,” which would be completed on Feb. 6, 1968, the rock group recorded two takes of John Lennon’s “Across The Universe.”
