Red Sox beat Cubs to win World Series 100 years ago this hour #OnThisDay #OTD (Sep 11 1918)

(Wednesday, September 11, 1918, at approximately 2:30 p.m.-4:28 p.m. EDT) — The Boston Red Sox won the 1918 World Series today, beating the Chicago Cubs 2-1 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts.

It was the fourth of seven World Series title for the Red Sox (1912-2013) but it was the team’s last for 86 years, a streak blamed by many on the Curse of the Bambino.

The Series was held early in September because of the World War I “Work or Fight” order that forced the premature end of the regular season on September 1, 1918, and remains the only World Series to be played entirely in September.
