(Monday, September 16, 1968, 7:00 p.m.-3:00 a.m. BST; during sessions for The Beatles, also known as “The White Album”) — The Beatles began recording Paul McCartney’s “I Will” at EMI Studio 2 in London tonight, tracking 67 takes.

McCartney also led the others (Lennon, Starr; Harrison was absent) through various improvisations, including take 19, better known as “Can You Take Me Back?,” which appeared on the White Album in between “Cry Baby Cry” and “Revolution 9.”

The trio also recorded “Step Inside Love,” which segued into an improvised song, “Los Paranoias.”
