(Sunday, November 18, 1928) — Walt Disney’s first sound-synchronized animated cartoon, Steamboat Willie, starring Mickey Mouse, premiered today at Universal’s Colony Theater in New York City.

Directed by Disney and Ub Iwerks, Disney performed all of the voices in the film.
