(Saturday, March 1, 1969)Yellow Submarine, the tenth studio album by English rock band The Beatles, the soundtrack to the animated film of the same name, peaked at #2 on today’s Billboard Top LP’s chart for one week.

Yellow Submarine was kept from the number spot on the chart by the band’s ninth studio album, the double-LP The Beatles, which was spending its ninth and final week in the top spot.

Yellow Submarine contained six songs by the Beatles, including four new songs and the previously released “Yellow Submarine” and “All You Need Is Love.”

The remainder of the album was a re-recording of the film’s orchestral soundtrack by the band’s producer, George Martin.
