(Monday, April 14, 1969, 2:30-9:00 p.m. BST) — The Beatles recorded “The Ballad of John and Yoko” today at EMI Studio 3 in London for release as a single on May 30, 1969.

The song, which chronicled the events associated with Lennon’s recent marriage to Yoko Ono, was recorded without George Harrison (who was shopping for a new house) and Ringo Starr (who was filming The Magic Christian).

All four members would reunite at Abbey Road two days later, Apr 16, 1969, for the band’s first recording session there with all four members in attendance since Oct. 8, 1968.
