Three Beatles reunite for Clapton-Boyd wedding celebration 40 years ago #OnThisDay #OTD (May 19 1979)

(Saturday, May 19, 1979) — Three former members of The Beatles, including Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, reunited today as 200 guests attended a celebration of the Mar. 27, 1979, wedding of rock star Eric Clapton and Harrison’s ex-wife, Pattie Boyd, at Clapton’s Hurtwood Edge home in Surrey.

At the end of the evening, McCartney, Harrison and Starr, as well as the other celebrities present, including Mick Jagger, Denny Laine, Ginger Baker and Lonnie Donegan, joined Clapton for an impromptu concert on a stage set up in a large marquee tent in his grounds.

They ran through various old rock’n’roll hits and even some Beatles’ covers.

Why the fourth Beatle, John Lennon, did not attend remains unclear, other than the fact that he was the only one living abroad (in the U.S.) at the time.
