(Thursday, July 2, 1964, evening BST) — Just hours after returning to London from a tour of Australia and New Zealand, John Lennon and Paul McCartney of The Beatles attended a studio session this evening at EMI Studio 1 in London for Cilla Black, who was recording their song “It’s For You.”

With The Beatles’ producer George Martin supervising the session, McCartney stayed late to add a piano contribution to the recording.
