(Monday, July 8, 1974; during the Nashville sessions) — Paul McCartney recorded overdubs to his song “Hey Diddletoday at Soundshop Recording Studios in Nashville.

The song was initially tracked on Oct. 26, 1970, at Columbia’s Studio B at 49 East 52nd Street in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, during sessions for Ram, his second album without The Beatles.

“Hey Diddle,” mixed July 8, 1971, did not appear on the original release of Ram, but was released as part of a deluxe version of the album in 2012 as the “Dixon Van Winkle Mix.”

Additional overdubs to the track were made today (and at an unspecified time or times this month) and mixed this month — this version, titled “Ernie Winfrey Mix,” was released in 2014 as part of a deluxe version of the McCartney/Wings’ album Venus And Mars.

The July 1974 overdubs included twin fiddles by sisters Marcy and Margie Cates, who recorded and performed as The Cates Sisters, and a pedal steel guitar played by Lloyd Green.
