Ted Kennedy says he’ll run in ’62 for U.S. Senate 50 years ago tonight (1961)

(Monday, December 4, 1961, evening) — Edward Kennedy, 29, youngest brother of U.S. President John F. Kennedy, stated tonight he is a candidate for the Senate seat former held by the president.

The statement was made at a meeting in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, of some 30 prospective delegates to the Democratic state convention next year.

(Friday, December 4, 1981)On Golden Pond, a film about an aging couple Ethel (Katharine Hepburn) and Norman Thayer (Henry Fonda) who are visited by daughter Chelsea (Jane Fonda) with her fiance and his rebellious son at their summer home on Golden Pond, opened today at the Cinema 1 in New York City.

Directed by Mark Rydell, the drama was nominated for ten Academy Awards, winning three, including Best Actor (Henry Fonda, in his final role).
