(Saturday, June 27, 1992) — Michael Jackson kicked off his Dangerous World Tour tonight before about 70,000 people at Munich Olympic Stadium in Munich, Germany. The tour, which would run to Nov. 11, 1993, included 69 performances to an audience of 3.5 million.

(Monday, June 27, 1932) — Democrats opened the 1932 Democratic National Convention today at Chicago Stadium in Chicago, with New York Gov. (and 1920 vice presidential nominee) Franklin D. Roosevelt viewed as virtually certain of nomination for president.

In a keynote speech bristling with denunciation of the Hoover administration, Sen. Alben W. Barkley today urged the convention to favor repealing the Eighteenth Amendment and called upon the nation to turn the Republicans out of office.

(Sunday, June 27, 1982, 11:00:00 a.m. EST) — The U.S. space shuttle Columbia went into orbit today on its fourth and final test flight, carrying a secret military cargo and an array of experimental instruments.

The multi-mission Columbia, piloted by Ken Mattingly and Henry Hartsfield, began its week-long flight after a punctual lift-off.
