(Wednesday, August 8, 1962, 1:00 PDT) — A brief, simple funeral service, arranged by her second husband Joe DiMaggio and attended by only 31 close family and friends, was held today for film legend Marilyn Monroe at the small Westwood Village Funeral Chapel in Hollywood. (Saturday, August 8, 1942, the American Theater of World War II) — Six Nazi saboteurs who were captured after landing in the U.S. were executed today in the electric chair on the third floor of the District of Columbia jail and buried in a potter’s field called Blue Plains in the Anacostia area of Washington. Two others who’d cooperated with authorities were spared.
