‘Let’s Get It On’ by Marvin Gaye peaks at #1 in USA 40 years ago today (1973)

(Saturday, September 8, 1973)“Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye peaked at #1 on today’s Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for two weeks (September 8/22, 1973).

The song was Gaye’s second of three number one hits on the chart (1968-1977). In 2004, it was ranked number 167 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
