(Wednesday, February 29, 1956) — Speaking slowly and in a slightly hoarse voice, President Dwight D. Eisenhower explained tonight why he had agreed this morning to seek a second term in a television report to the nation.

The 65-year-old president frankly told his party tonight, however, that because of his heart attack last Sept. 24, he must restrict his activities in the conduct of his office and in the presidential campaign.

(Wednesday, February 28, 1996, 8:00-11:00 p.m. EST) — A cheating ex-boyfriend and a voice full of breaks and wails brought four major Grammy Awards to Alanis Morissette, the 21-year-old Canadian songwriter who was the big winner tonight in the 38th Annual Grammy Awards at Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Her Jagged Little Pill was named album of the year and best rock album; its first single, “You Oughta Know,” was named best rock song and best rock female vocal performance (click here for several clips from the show).
