(Friday, October 27, 2006, at about 7:30-10:26 p.m. CDT) — The St. Louis Cardinals won the 2006 World Series tonight, beating the Detroit Tigers 4-2 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, in the fifth and deciding game.

It was the third of three World Series title for the White Sox (1906-2005).

(Monday, October 27, 1986, at about 8:15-11:26 p.m. EDT) — The New York Mets won the 1986 World Series tonight, beating the Boston Red Sox 8-5 at Shea Stadium in Queens, New York, in the seventh and deciding game.

It was the second (and last to date) World Series title for the Mets, a series best remembered for Game 6 when the Mets rallied for three runs with two outs in the 10th inning, defeating the Red Sox 6-5 and forcing a seventh game.
