(Friday, April 16, 1993, ‘Earth Day’ concert was scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. PDT) — Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney headlined an Earth Day concert tonight at the Hollywood Bowl in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, during a break in his The New World Tour to promote McCartney’s ninth studio album Off the Ground.

It was McCartney’s first performance at the landmark venue since The Beatles appeared there on Aug. 30, 1965.

The preliminary acts included rappers PM Dawn, folk-rockers 10,000 Maniacs, an acoustic Steve Miller, Bruce Cockburn, Kenny Loggins and Don Henley.

McCartney and his band were joined by the show’s entire cast and former Beatle Ringo Starr on a stirring version of “Hey Jude” that served as the evening’s finale.
