(Thursday, April 24, 1913, 7:29 p.m. local time) — U.S. President Woodrow Wilson, from the White House in Washington tonight, gave the signal for the formal opening of the new 57-story Woolworth Building at 233 Broadway in the Manhattan borough of New York City, New York, the tallest structure in the world (at that time) with the exception of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
