(Thursday, September 16, 1993, 9:30 p.m. EDT)Frasier, a television series spin-off of sitcom Cheers about psychiatrist Dr. Frasier Crane, who returns to his hometown of Seattle following the end of his marriage and his life in Boston, debuted tonight on NBC.

Created by David Angell, Peter Casey and David Lee, it stars Kelsey Grammer, Jane Leeves, David Hyde Pierce, Peri Gilpin, John Mahoney and Dan Butler.

The series continues the story of psychiatrist Frasier Crane, who returns to his hometown, Seattle, as a radio show host. He reconnects with his father, Martin, a retired police officer, and his younger brother, Niles, a fellow psychiatrist.

Frasier was critically acclaimed, with the series and the cast winning thirty-seven Primetime Emmy Awards, a record at the time for a scripted series.

It also won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series for five consecutive years.
