(Friday, October 4, 1963, 6:15-7:00 p.m. British Summer Time) — The Beatles performed live tonight in Studio Nine, Television House, Kingsway, London, in their first of three appearances on Associated-Rediffusion TV’s Ready, Steady, GO! television series.

Dressed in their collarless suits, The Beatles lip-synced three numbers (“Twist And Shout,” “I’ll Get You,” and “She Loves You.”) while crowded onto a small platform and surrounded by well-behaved dancing teens.

They were also interviewed by singer Dusty Springfield and host Keith Fordyce.

The series, which would become synonymous in Britain with the so-called “Swinging Sixties,” debuted on Aug. 2, 1963, although for the first few months, it was not fully networked around Britain.
