(Friday, October 26, 1973) — Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney and his group Wings released the single “Helen Wheels”/“Country Dreamer” in the UK today (released in the U.S. on Nov. 12, 1973).

“Helen Wheels,” recorded Sept. 3-7, 1973, and the only fully overdubbed track during the band’s recording sessions in Lagos, Nigeria, was released as a single prior to the group’s next album, Band on the Run, but was not included on the British release of the album.

However, Capitol Records vice president of promotion Al Coury persuaded McCartney to include it on the American release.

“Country Dreamer,” recorded Sept. 26, 1972 with overdubs applied Nov. 26-Dec. 6, 1972 (including lead vocals), was originally intended to be on the Red Rose Speedway when it was to be a double album but was cut when it was reduced to a single album.
