(Tuesday, February 25, 1964, morning GMT) — Mail poured in from all corners of the globe today to congratulate George Harrison of The Beatles on his twenty-first birthday, some fifteen thousand cards in all, plus countless gifts.

Unsurprisingly, this was all given media coverage, with camera crews duly filming sacks of mail arriving at George’s home in Liverpool and at the Beatles’ Fan Club headquarters in London.

At the latter location, George was also seen sorting through mail with the help of Fan Club secretaries Anne Collingham and Bettina Rose.

This is followed by a brief interview with George (who thanks the fans for his presents) and two minutes of silent offcuts of the interview.

Following their recording sessions tonight at EMI Studios, a private party was held in an upstairs room at the Ivy restaurant in London.

The Beatles and their guests, which included George Martin, Dick James, Jane Asher and Cilla Black, dined on turtle soup, smoked salmon and Chateaubriand steak.
