‘Cavalcade’ wins Outstanding Production at 6th Academy Awards 80 years ago this hour (Mar 16 1934)

(Friday, March 16, 1934, 8:00 p.m. PST)Cavalcade, a drama film about a British family that survives war and changing times, won three Oscars tonight at the 6th Academy Awards, including Outstanding Production and Frank Lloyd for Best Director.

Charles Laughton won Best Actor for The Private Life of Henry VIII and Katharine Hepburn won Best Actress for Morning Glory.

The ceremonies were held in the Fiesta Room of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles with comedian Will Rogers as host.
