(Monday, March 23, 1964, 10:25-11:15 p.m. BST) — Britain’s Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, presented the Beatleswith two awards tonight for their work the previous year on The Carl-Alan Awards, broadcast live on BBC-TV from the Empire Ballroom in London.

The awards apparently had something to do with ballroom dancing and were bestowed for “best beat group” and “best vocal record for dancing” (“She Loves You”).
