The pair had flown into Shannon on a private jet with John’s wife, Cynthia, and George’s new girlfriend, Pattie Boyd. They were met at the airport by Bernard McDonagh, the owner of Dromoland.

They were looking forward to a quiet weekend, with no publicity, but news had got out of their arrival and cross-channel journalists had booked rooms in the hotel.

The four of them had most of their meals in John and Cynthia’s room – Room 206, the Presidential Suite.

All four Beatles would reconvene on Tuesday, Mar. 31, to resume production of their first feature film A Hard Day’s Night.
